Owls Defeat LUB in Straight Sets

BELLEVILLE, Ill. ­– The William Woods University volleyball team swept Lindenwood University-Belleville in straight sets Tuesday evening, 3-0. The Owls improve to 15-15 on the season with a 6-2 conference mark. 
 
The Owls won 25-19, 25-20, 25-17.
 
The Owls continue their five game away stretch on Thursday, Oct. 24, with a match at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m.
 
Game Flow
LUB took a 4-0 lead to start the night, but back-to-back-to-back kills from Hannah Kuehl and Alli Gueck gave the Owls a 6-5 lead. Midway through the set, the Owls pushed a 4-0 run with two kills from Nise Salima, a kill from Jaclyn Zahn and a LUB attack error to extend their lead to 13-9. After an error brought the set within one late in the game, 20-19, the Owls scored five straight with three consecutive kills from Zahn to end the set, 25-19.
 
Set two remained even throughout the first half, but a 4-0 Owls' run put them up by six, 19-13. LUB began to close the gap near the end with help from Owls' errors, but Zahn once again put an end to the set with a kill, 25-20.
 
The Owls were determined to end the match in three and came out with dominating force. They took a 5-1 lead to start and quickly extended it to an 11-point lead, 14-3. LUB scored three more, but the Owls pushed back with a 5-0 run to take a 19-6 lead. WWU errors helped LUB put more points on the board, but a LUB service error ended the match with a 25-17 win.

.600 – Jaclyn Zahn hit .600 on the night with nine kills and no errors on 15 attempts. 
38 – The Owls recorded 38 kills to LUB's 19.
