ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's volleyball team clinched an American Midwest Conference tournament berth with Thursday's 3-1 win at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. With the win, the Owls sit in fourth place with a 7-2 conference mark, 16-15 on the season.
The Owls defeated STLCOP 25-15, 22-25, 25-13, 25-19.
The Owls next play at non-conference Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday, Oct. 26. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
Game Flow
After an even start to the match, the Owls pushed a 4-0 run midway through with the help of two
Kate Doerhoff kills and a
Lanie Lowry kill, 17-12. A second 4-0 run gave the Owls a nine-point lead, 22-13. The Owls closed out the set with three consecutive kills from Lowry,
Hannah Kuehl and
Nise Salima to win it 25-15.
STLCOP jumped out to a 6-1 lead to start set two, but with four service aces from Tori Roseman, the Owls managed to take a 10-7 lead. With three consecutive kills from Lowry,
Alli Gueck and Kuehl, the Owls took a 14-8 lead, but following a timeout, STLCOP evened the score. A STLCOP service ace put the Eutectics back in the lead. A STLCOP attack error evened the score at 21-21, but STLCOP followed with three kills to take a 24-21 lead. Kuehl stopped the run with a kill, but STLCOP grabbed the set win with a kill, evening the match at 1-1.
The Owls and STLCOP played even to start set three, but halfway through, the Owls powered a 13-3 run to win the set 25-13. In the final nine points, the Owls recorded seven kills with three from Doerhoff, two from Lowry and two from Kuehl.
The Owls continued their momentum into set four, pushing a 14-6 lead midway through. The Owls advanced the lead to 21-14. They made their way to set point while STLCOP sat with 16, but STLCOP scored three consecutive on set point to get to 19.
Faith McQueen put a stop to the STLCOP run and scored the final point of the match with a kill, 25-19.
