Box Score SALINA, Kan. – The William Woods University volleyball team dropped a non-conference five-set thriller to Kansas Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon, 3-2. The loss brings the Owls to 16-16 on the season.
The Owls lost to Kansas Wesleyan 25-19, 15-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-11.
The Owls jump back to conference play with a home match versus No. 5 Park University on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

Game Flow
The Owls and KWU were even throughout the start of set one until KWU hit a 5-1 run to take a 16-11 lead. The Owls put together a three-point run with a kills from
Remie Johnson and
Kate Doerhoff and a block from
Nise Salima and
Jaclyn Zahn, 19-17. KWU went on to close out the set with a 6-2 run.
The Owls started set two with a 4-0 run featuring a block, two kills and an ace. They continued to hold a five-point lead throughout most of the set. After a block from Johnson and
Hannah Kuehl started a 3-0 run to take a 17-9 lead, KWU called a timeout. KWU scored one, but the Owls scored four more. A block from Kuehl and
Lanie Lowry closed out the set with a 25-15 win, evening the match at 1-1.
Set three started similar to set one, but the Owls were the one to strike a run this time; a 4-1 run gave the Owls a 13-9 lead. KWU closed the gap to one multiple times midway through, but a 6-0 run late in the set featuring back-to-back blocks by Doerhoff and Kuehl gave the Owls a 22-15 lead. KWU scored three more, but the Owls ended the set with a 25-18 win to take a 2-1 lead over KWU.
KWU jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start set four, and after they led 13-6, the Owls called a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the Owls hit a 4-0 run with two kills from Lowry, a
Kayton Coffee ace and another block from Doerhoff and Kuehl to put the game at 14-10. KWU called a timeout, and following it, they put up a 20-11 lead. The Owls were unable to close the gap, and KWU evened the match to 2-2.
KWU took a 3-1 lead to start set five, but a block from Lowry tied up the set, 3-3. KWU stayed one step ahead, but the Owls tied up the set three times. With the score sitting at 10-10, KWU scored two, forcing the Owls to call a timeout. Coming out, Doerhoff put down a kill to bring the set to 12-11, KWU. KWU scored the final two points of the match on WWU errors.
