COLUMBIA, Mo. – The William Woods women's volleyball team was defeated by No. 12 Columbia College on Thursday evening, 3-0 (23-25, 26-28, 15-25). The Owls are 12-12 on the season with a 4-2 AMC record.
Game Flow
The Owls came out of the gates with a 2-0 lead off of the Cougars' errors.
Two straight kills by the Cougars put them on the board, 2-2.
The Owls took a 5-3 lead with a kill from
Hannah Kuehl and a service ace from
Lanie Lowry.
The Owls and Cougars went back-and-forth for the lead as there were eight ties throughout the first set.
The Cougars largest lead was four, 23-19.
The Owls fought back with a block and kill by Kuehl, 23-24.
William Woods did not have quite enough as Columbia took the first set, 25-23.
The Owls started the second set with an early 2-1 advantage with a kill by
Nise Salima and
Jaclyn Zahn.
Taking their largest lead of the set, the Owls led 6-3 after two attack errors from the Cougars and a kill by Lowry.
The Cougars slowly found their way into the match, tying it up 9-9.
Again, the Owls and Cougars were neck-and-neck throughout the second set with 14 ties.
After a kill by
Kate Doerhoff, the Owls had a 24-21 advantage with hopes to secure the second set.
The Cougars came back to tie it up 24-24 after two kills and a service ace.
The Owls battled once again, but Columbia came up with the second set victory, 28-26.
William Woods started the third set with a 2-0 lead after two attack errors from the Cougars.
The Cougars went on a 6-0 run which gave them a 6-3 advantage.
Another 6-0 Columbia run put the Cougars up 12-3.
The Owls came within seven, but the Cougars were on fire and ultimately took the third set, 25-15.
