Owls Push Past Eutectics, 83-63

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team pushed past St. Louis College of Pharmacy Saturday afternoon for their second conference win, 83-63. The Owls move to 4-3 on the season with a 2-0 start to American Midwest Conference play.
 
Makenzie Fessler recorded a double-double in the game, and Andrew Nett was just one rebound shy.
 
The Owls travel to Lincoln, Ill. for a non-conference game versus Lincoln College (Ill.) on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
 
 
By The Numbers
44.1 – The Owls shot 44.1% from the field in the first half.
14  – Makenzie Fessler and Andrew Nett sunk 14 points apiece. Fessler went 6-for-11 from the field, and Nett hit four threes.
13 – Fessler pulled down 13 boards with nine coming from the defensive end to record a double-double.
12 – D'Aaron Owens went 4-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line for 12 points.
3 – Treshawn Gause and Tyriel Nelson each grabbed three steals. Nelson also dished in three assists.
 
Game Flow
The Owls started the game with back-to-back buckets to take a 4-0 early lead, and two free points by Darius Yohe at the foul line gave the Owls an 8-2 advantage just over three minutes into the game. 
 
STLCOP cut the game to one, but a foul on the three helped push the Owls back out. With a bucket in the paint by Matt Burgess, the Owls doubled STLCOP's score with 11:47 to play, 18-9. 
 
The Owls finally took a double-digit lead when Yohe sunk two more at the foul line just over halfway through the first to take a 24-13 lead.  
 
A fast break layup by Jason Mason following a D'Aaron Owens' steal and a three from Nett gave the Owls a 14-point lead, 29-14. 
 
The Owls answered back with a 7-0 run to go back up by 14 after STLCOP scored seven unanswered to cut the game to seven. 
 
STLCOP brought the game within single digits again, but Mason hit two jumpers in the final minute to send the Owls into halftime with a 46-33 lead.
 
The Owls didn't get on the board until almost five minutes into the second half, but a three from Burgess broke the Owls' silence and started a 13-1 run to give the Owls a 20-point lead with 10:55 to play, 59-39.
 
After STLCOP chipped the lead down to 14, Owens and Nett combined for five on the next two possessions to pushed back a 19-point lead. 
 
STLCOP managed a 7-0 run in a minute span to cut the game to eight with 3:17 to play, 68-60.
 
The Owls aggressively responded, outscoring STLCOP 15-3 in the final minutes. The Owls scored 11 of the 15 points off free throws.
