FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team suffered an upset against Lyon College Thursday evening, 76-71.
With the loss, the Owls are now tied for third in the American Midwest Conference with a 13-6 record. On the season, the Owls are 16-10.
The Owls host Central Baptist College on Saturday, Feb. 16. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
Game Flow
Two minutes into the game, the Owls blasted a 13-0 run over a five-minute period to take a 10-point lead, 15-5.
While Lyon cut the game back to single digits, the Owls maintained a multiple possession lead. A two from
Shad Kimble brought them back to an 11-point lead with 9:05 on the clock.
Lyon brought the game within four with 5:49 to play in the first, but the Owls put up seven in the next minute to take back an 11-point lead, 33-22.
A three from Kimble put the Owls up by 12, but Lyon held the Owls scoreless in the final three minutes of the half while putting up 11 to cut the game to one-point heading into halftime, 36-35.
Lyon tied the game for the first time just three minutes into the second half, but a two from
Brian Enriquez put the Owls back up on the next possession.
Lyon knotted the game up twice more before taking the lead with an 11-0 run over a five-minute span.
Back-to-back points from
Andrew Nett and Enriquez brought the Owls within four with 8:13 to play, 57-53, but Lyon pushed their lead to 12 a 7-0 run.
The Owls cut the game to seven twice in the final minutes, the Owls scored the final six points of the game with threes from Kimble and
Treshawn Gause to end the game with a 76-71 loss.
