Owls Softball Drops Two to Bethel (Tenn.)

McKenzie, Tenn. – The William Woods University softball team dropped two games to Bethel University (Tenn.) in their late addition doubleheader. The Owls dropped game one, 6-3, and game two, 2-1. The Owls fall to 2-4 on the season.

The Owls next play Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 23, for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla.
 
Game One
Bethel began the scoring in the second inning, butting up two runs with RBI singles.
 
The Owls rebutted in the top of the third with two runs of their own to tie the game at 2-2. Emma Walker scored on Anna Counts' single to shallow right-center field, and Counts crossed home plate on Alli Massey's single to right field. 
 
Bethel took back the lead in the bottom of the inning with two RBI singles and a RBI double.
 
After a pitching change by Bethel, Emma Walker led off the top of the fifth with a double down the left field line. She moved to third on an error and scored on Massey's sacrifice fly to deep center field, bringing the game to 5-3.
 
Bethel added one more in the bottom of the sixth on an error to take a 6-3 lead.
 
The Owls were unable to put a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh, ending the game with a 6-3 loss. 
 
Madison Ausfahl (1-2) pitched the complete game and struck out four. 
 
Game Two
The Owls looked to score early in game two, but two outs ended the inning with two runners stranded in scoring position. 
 
The game was uneventful until the Owls were up to bat in the fifth inning. An error brought Bri Devellano to base, and Walker was walked to have two runners on. Anna Counts then singled to shallow left-center field, scoring Devellano to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
 
Bethel scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth with two outs to take a 2-1 lead. 
 
The Owls had to score in the final inning to win, but three quick outs ended the game with a 2-1 loss. 
 
Counts went 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI. 
 
Brittany Roady (1-1) pitched the complete game and struck out five.
