Owls Narrowly Defeat CBC on Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. – The RV William Woods women's basketball team recorded their second straight win on Senior Day in a nail-biter against Central Baptist (Ark.) Saturday afternoon, 74-72. The Owls move to 18-10 overall, 14-8 in conference play. 
The William Woods women's basketball and cheer seniors were recognized following the game. The William Woods women's basketball seniors include Sommer Burgard, Kailey Morris, Kate Nolan, and Bailey Rollins. Representing the William Woods cheer team were seniors Olivia Davidson, Victori Moore, Ashley Pendleton, and Audriana Wright. 
Peyton Greenlee led the Owls with 29 points while also recording seven rebounds. Kaycee Gerald post a double-double with 12 points and a floor-high 11 rebounds.
WWU will play their last home game against Hannibal-LaGrange in Anderson Arena on Thursday, February 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls got on the board early with a three-pointer made by Greenlee, giving the Owls the first lead of the game, 3-0.
 
With 1:59 to go in the first quarter, WWU would take an 11-point lead with a shot in the paint from Kasey Hazell.
 
The Owls would continue their lead the entire first quarter, with a 30-23 lead into the second quarter.
 
In the first quarter, the Owls shot .833 percent from the field, shooting 10-for-12. WWU was also dominant from the three-point line in the first quarter, shooting 7-for-7. 
 
The second quarter started off with a shot in the paint by Greenlee, 32-23.
 
With a shot by Central Baptist's Holly Allen, the Owls fell to a five-point lead, 48-43, but the Owls would maintain their lead throughout the entire second half, leading 50-43 going into the locker room. 
 
Starting out the third quarter, Hailey Bunch of Central Baptist recorded a three-pointer to bring the Mustangs within four, 50-46. 
 
With 5:13 remaining in the third quarter, the Mustangs cut the lead down to two points with a shot from Alexis Augustus, 55-53.
 
The Owls would hold a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter, 62-60.
 
To start the fourth quarter, Hazell knocked down a bucket in the paint, 64-60, but with 1:39 remaining in the game, CBC tied it up with a three-pointer, 72-72.
 
The Owls made the last shot with 1:15 on the clock with a basket by Hazell to give the Owls a two-point lead, 74-72.

With ten seconds remaining, WWU turned the ball over, giving the Mustangs a chance to win the ball game. A missed three-point attempt by Sierra Carrier would secure the Owls' victory, 74-72.
