Fulton, Mo. – Senior night was a success for the Owls in a rowdy Anderson Arena Thursday evening.The William Woods men's basketball team won 66-63 against Hannibal-LaGrange for their second straight win. The Owls now have an 18-10 overall record and are 15-6 in conference play.
With the win, William Woods knocked the Trojans out of second place in the American Midwest Conference. The Owls will be a top-four seed and are expected to host the first round of the AMC Tournament.
Treshawn Gause was the leading scorer for the Owls with 15 points. He also dished out eight assists, another team high of the night.
David Johnson Jr. and
Brian Enriquez also pitched in, scoring 11 points each. Mackenzie Fessler was dominant on the defensive end as he recorded eight rebounds.
The Owls will look for their third straight win against St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday, February 23, at 3 p.m. in their season finale.
Game Flow
Hannibal-LaGrange took the early lead with a three-pointer from Ryan Ward to start the game, 3-0. This would be three of his 28 recorded points on the night.
The Owls would find themselves down until two made free throw attempts from
Jason Walker which gave the Owls a 22-21 lead with 9:15 left to play.
Gause gave William Woods their highest lead of the first half going into halftime with a shot in the paint, 36-32.
The Owls shot a generous 0.56 percent from the field the first half.
HLG scored first in the second half, but a 9-0 Owls run escalated their lead to 45-36.
With 10:31 on the clock, the Owls extended their lead to fourteen, their highest lead of the game with a two-point shot made by
Shad Kimble, 54-40.
The Owls let the Trojans come within one with 3:25 remaining with a basket from Ward, 58-57.
The Owls maintained their lead throughout the rest of the second half, but not without the Trojans coming within one. With 0:02 remaining in the game HLG fired up a three, bringing the game within one, 64-63.
HLG then committed a foul against Gause who went to the line. Gause knocked down two free throws which gave the Owls a 66-63 win over the Trojans.
