ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 6 William Woods women's tennis team picked up their second straight loss in a tight match against NCAA Division II Maryville University Tuesday afternoon, 4-3.

Maryville picked up two of three doubles matches, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead into singles action. Ana Zavala and Zlata Shuraeva finished first in the No. 2 doubles spot giving the Owls their lone doubles win, 6-3. Playing No. 1 doubles, Paige Smith and Julia Perez fell to the Saints 6-4. Chelsea Steward and Felicia Cesar dropped their match in the No. 3 doubles spot, 7-5.
 
Giving the Owls their first singles win, Zlata Shuraeva fought hard to obtain a 7-5, 7-6 victory in the No. 2 spot. Battling for the third set, Felicia Cesar in the No. 5 spot gave the Owls another singles win, 6-1, 3-6, (10-8). Ana Zavala came away with a win in the No. 4 spot, winning 6-2, 6-4.
 
The Owls will host NCAA Division II Emporia State, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex for their first home match of the season.
