Owls Capture First Home Win of the Season Defeating Lindenwood-Belleville 16-6

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team captured their first home victory of the 2019 season Saturday afternoon as the defeated Lindenwood-Belleville 16-6 in an eight-inning game.
 
Nine Owls scored in the contest. Isiah Gibbs led all scores with three runs, while Trevor Garriott followed with two runs in the contest.
 
WWU returns to action Sunday, Mar. 17th to finish the three-game series between the Lynx. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
 
Game Flow
The Owls got things started right away. In the bottom of the first, Gibbs and Marquise Doherty scored back to back runs and a Quincy Jones ball that went deep into center field. The two early runs gave WWU a 2-0 lead.
 
They continued their scoring spree late in the bottom of the second. A Trevor Garriott double was good enough to send Alex Wimer home and give William Woods a 3-0 lead.
 
After back to back scoring innings, WWU slowed down in the bottom of the third. They would regain their momentum the following inning as they were able to score three runs coming from Brady Owen, T. Garriott and Gibbs. All three runs pushed their lead to 6-0.
 
Finally, after falling behind big, Lindenwood-Belleville was able to put a point on the board when Cullen Stockley homered deep down left field and gave the Lynx their first run of the game.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, the Owls were able to score two more runs. A sacrifice fly was able to send Owen home and give WWU a 7-1 advantage. Moments later, Doherty hit one deep down left field that sent Gibbs home once again and pushed their lead to 8-1.
 
At the top of the seventh, Lindenwood-Belleville got their second run when Austin Bargen found his way to the plate on a batted ball, but it would still not be enough to slow WWU down as they responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh-inning.
 
In the eight-inning, things started to change for the Lynx. Cj Norman, Bargen, Cody Bauza andBeau Collier all found the plate and put Lindenwood-Belleville down 11-6.
The Owls put the game out of reach midway through the bottom of the eight. Quincy Jones, Tyler Bracht, Jordan Smith and Wimer scored the final four-runs for William Woods and gave them a 16-6 lead
 
WWU went on to win the contest in eight innings, 16-6.
