FULTON, Mo. -The William Woods University softball team dropped two games to Central Baptist College (Ark.) to start off the conference play. The Owls dropped game one, 7-3, and game two, 8-3. The Owls fall to 5-12 on the season, 0-2 in conference.
The Owls return to action March 17 as they face No. 18 Lyon College for a home doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
Game one
Central Baptist started the game with three runs in the first inning.
The Owls fought back, scoring a run in the first inning. Darcrie Depping received an RBI by scoring the runner in 3-1.
In the next inning,
Ari Arnold scored a run to make it 3-2, and that's the closest score was for the Owls.
In the seventh inning, Central Baptist capped off the game with a three RBI single to make the score 7-3.
The Owls were able to get a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the inning but the game ended with a groundout.
Alli Massey went 3-for-4 from the plate.
Ari Arnold and
Regan Wilde also had a multi-hit games.
Madison Ausfahl (2-6) received the loss for the Owls.
Game Two
The Owls started the game with a 1-2-3 first inning, and got on the board early with
Ari Arnold hitting an RBI triple and
Alli Massey having an RBI off of a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the second inning,
Brittany Roady struck out two to allow just three batters up.
Central Baptist University scored three runs in the top of third inning to take the lead.
The Owls fought back in the bottom of the third inning.
Celeste Sermeno hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Arnold and tying the game at 3-3.
CBU took the lead in the fifth inning with a one out, two RBI double, and they never looked back as they kept the lead for the rest of the game. They scored an additional three runs in the seventh inning with two RBI doubles.
Arnold went 2-for-4 from the plate with a double, triple, RBI and two runs scored.
Emma Walker also had two hits in the game.
Brittany Roady (3-4) received the loss for the Owls.
