CONWAY, ARK. – The William Woods University Baseball team dropped the first of a three game series Thursday night to Central Baptist 13-11. The Owls are now 15-26-1 overall and 5-20 in the American Midwest Conference.
WWU returns to action Friday afternoon as they continue the series between the Mustangs. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

William Woods were the first to strike the first punch.
Connor Poulson was able to reach home on a
Zach Smith double and give WWU an early 1-0 lead. Moments later, Smith when on to score himself and put the Owls ahead 2-0.
Central Baptist quickly responded in the bottom of the third inning by putting their first one on the board. Jamal Washington was able to reach home plate on a Trae Bobo single down center field; the run put the Mustangs behind 2-1. But they would not stop there, after brining Washington home, Bobo was able to tie the game 2-2 on a sacrifice fly. Central Baptist did not settle for the tie, a few pitches later Barker Wilson and Kelvin Volquez both made it home on a Jay French single down left center field that gave them a 4-2 lead.
William Woods could not respond to the CBC run and remained behind.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Washington was able to stretch the Mustangs lead to 5-2 when he made it home on a Charley Harber single.
The Owls continued to struggle in the top of the fifth inning and Central Baptist would keep their three-run advantage.
CBC continued to swing the bat, In the bottom of the fifth inning Samuel Abernathy and Ryan Guyton both made it home and pushed their lead to 7-2.
Finally, after two scoreless innings, WWU was able to put another run on the board.
Marquise Doherty was able to reach home plate thanks to a
Quincy Jones single down center field. The run was good enough to put the Owls with four of the Mustangs.
After a hot start to the contest, CBC finally slowed down in the bottom of the sixth inning. Although they did not score, they remained ahead 7-3.
Down four, the Owls were able to regain their momentum in the top of the seventh inning. Poulson and Smith were both able to score a run when
Tyler Bracht single down middle field. The two runs put the Owls down 7-5. Moments later, Jones and Bracht both made it home and gave the Owls a 8-7 advantage.
Central Baptist could not respond to the momentum swing and remained behind one run.
The next run would not be scored until the top of the ninth inning when Jones reached home plate courtesy of Bracht. Seconds later Bracht reached home plate and gave the Owls a 10-7 lead. Towards to end of the inning,
Tim Redford was able to push the lead to 11-7 when he reached home on a sacrifice fly.
After losing their lead, the Mustangs needed to make something happen. They did just that; Jacob Rose, French, Steven Stewart and Rose each scored a run to give them a 13-11 lead.
Central Baptist went on to win the contest 13-11.
