Owls Hold on To Defeat Missouri Valley 7-4

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University Baseball team captured their 17th win of the season Tuesday night as they defeated Missouri Valley 7-4. WWU holds a 2-0 season series lead over the Vikings.
 
The Owls return to action Friday, April 19for a four-game series against College of the Ozarks. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
 
Game Flow
William Woods got things going early in the bottom of the first inning. Midway through, Isaiah Gibbs was able to score the first run for the Owls and put them up 1-0. Moments later Connor Poulson recorded the second run of the night on a Marquise Doherty single to center field.
 
After a rough first inning, Missouri Valley continued to struggle in the top of the second. They remained behind two runs.
 
WWU entered the bottom of the second inning with the same momentum that they began the game with. Halfway through the inning, Quincy Jones was able to swipe home plate thanks to a Brady Owen single down shallow center field. Owen would eventually score himself on a Gibbs single down center field. The two runs were good enough to push the Owls lead to 4-0.
 
Finally, after two scoreless innings, the Vikings were able to post three runs in the top of the third. Brent Hechemeyer, Alex Letcher and Shane Clarke all made it home to put Missouri Valley behind 4-3.
 
William Woods could not respond to the quick Vikings' runs but they were able to keep a one run lead.
 
After waking up in the top of the third-inning, Missouri Valley continued to swing the bat in the top of the fourth. Towards the end of the inning, Angel Silverio advanced home on an error and tied the game at 4-4.
 
William Woods was able to gain a two-run lead in the bottom of the fourth when Tyler Bracht and Alex Wimer both reached home plate.
 
Ahead 6-4 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, William Woods decided to stretch their lead to 7-4 when Jones scored his second run of the contest on a Bracht double down left field.
 
The Vikings attempted a comeback in the remaining innings but could not get over the hump. The Owls went on to win the contest 7-4.
