FULTON, Mo. –The William Woods University baseball team dropped the final game of the series with Park University Wednesday afternoon, 2-0.
The two Park runs late in the game move the Owls to 12-22-1 on the season.
Adam Grunden started the night on the mound with three strikeouts in the top of the first.
The Owls looked to score early in the bottom of the first.
Brian Granton led off with a single to left-center field, and
Zach Smith moved him to third with a double to right field.
Marquise Doherty was thrown four straight balls to load up the bases, but a double play ended the inning with nothing added to the board.
Adam Grunden threw 14 strikeouts through his seven innings on the mound. He threw at least two strikeouts through the first four innings and allowed just two hits.
The Owls had bases loaded again in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but a force out ended the inning with the game still scoreless.
On two outs and two runners on in the top of the ninth, Park took a 2-0 lead following an outfield error. At the end of the play, the Owls grabbed the out to end the half, but the damage was done.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Owls were held to just three batters up to drop the game 2-0.
Davin Marcomb (1-2) pitched the final two innings and was credited with the loss. He struck out three and allowed just one hit.
The Owls outhit Park 6-3 with
Tim Redford recording two.
