FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team dropped two to No. 6 Freed-Hardeman University Friday evening. The Owls lost the games 11-2 and 5-2.
The Owls close out the three-game series on Saturday, April 6, with a 1 p.m. game.
Game One
FHU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first and added three more in the second to take a 5-0 lead early in the game.
Brian Granton scored for the Owls in the third inning on Gibson's at-bat. They added a second run in the bottom of the fourth on Isaiah Gibb's RBI double to bring
Tyler Bracht home.
FHU added six more over the fifth, six and seventh innings to win the game 11-2.
Zach Smith went 2-for-4 from the plate.
Taran Oulton (2-7) was credited with the loss. He started on the mound and pitched 4.2 innings.
Game Two
FHU struck first in game two with an RBI single to left field.
They added their second run in the top of the fourth with an RBI single to right field. FHU loaded the bases, but the Owls pulled out of the inning with no more damage done after an infield double play by
Zach Smith at third.
In the bottom of the inning, Bracht started the bats with a single to the pitcher's mound.
Quincy Jones followed with a double to left field, and
Tim Redford hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Bracht and advance Jones to third. A fly out ended the inning with two runners stranded.
In the bottom of the sixth, Jones tied it up with a
Russell Strilchuk single to right field.
FHU took back the lead in the top of the eighth and added two more in the ninth to take a 5-2 lead.
The Owls were unable to get a runner on base in the bottom of the ninth, ending it with a 5-2 loss.
Jones went 2-for-4 from plate with two doubles and a run scored.
Davin Marcomb (1-3) was credited with the loss on the mound. He pitched the final two innings and struck out two.
Travis Hennessey pitched the first seven innings and struck out seven.
