FULTON, Mo. –The William Woods University softball team swept St. Louis College of Pharmacy with two shutouts on Senior Day Friday afternoon. The Owls won game one, 6-0, followed by a 17-0 game two five-inning shutout win.
The Owls move to 14-17 on the season while bringing their conference record to .500 (7-7).
The Owls are set to play Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 3 p.m.
Game One
The Owls put up two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
Anna Counts reached on an error and was brought home on
Ari Arnold's triple. Arnold then scored on
Emma Walker's sacrifice fly to right field.
In the bottom of the second,
Bri Devellano reached base on a fielder's choice and was brought home on Count's single. Counts advanced to third on the play and scored on Arnold's double to the left-center field fence. The third out came a batter later, leaving two runners stranded in scoring position.
The Owls were unable to find home plate again until the bottom of the sixth. A walk by Counts started the inning, followed by Arnold's third hit of the day. A passed ball advanced both runners, and the two runners scored on
Alli Massey's single to right-center field. A double play ended the inning before the Owls could put two more on the board to end the game early.
Two strikeouts and a foul fly out ended the game with a 6-0 win.
Brittany Roady (8-6) pitched a no-hitter for the complete game shutout win. She struck out 10 while walking just one batter.
Ari Arnold went 3-for-4 from the plate with a double, a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.
Game Two
Arnold started the bats for the Owls in game two with a one out triple to the left-center field fence. She scored on Massey's triple to the center field fence to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. Massey was brought home on
Emily Robinett's single just over second base to give the Owls a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
The Owls had a dominating second inning as they scored nine runs on eight hits.
Amanda Bouchey led off with a double to left-center field. A dropped fly moved Bouchey to third, and Bouchey and
Bri Devellano scored on Arnold's single.
Dacrie Depping scored on Walker's single, and Massey's triple cleared the bases. Robinett then singled to bring home Massey.
Lindy Wilson singled, and Bouchey came up for the second time in the inning and smashed a three-run homer over the left field fence to clear the bases and score the final runs of the inning.
The Owls added one in the bottom of the third with Massey's sacrifice fly following Walker's triple.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Owls added five more runs to take a 17-0 lead.
Devyn Burton led off with a triple.
Madison Ausfahl pinch hit and reached on an error, but Burton scored. Two wild pitches scored
Kaitlyn Jennings and moved Devellano to third. A Depping single brought Devellano home, and Depping scored on Massey's at-bat. Robinett then singled, bringing home Arnold for the Owls' 17
th run of the game.
Ausfahl (7-9) pitched the complete game shutout victory. She struck out five while allowing just three hits.
Arnold went 3-for-4 from the plate with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored.
Emily Robinett went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Massey went 2-for-3 with two triples, five RBI and two runs scored.
