LAMONI, Iowa – The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped their season-opener to Graceland Saturday afternoon, 2-1. Senior
Alexis Willingham scored the Owls' only goal of the game, marking her third career goal.
Game Flow
Aurora Henriksen looked to put the Owls on the board first in the 22
nd minute, but Graceland's keeper made the stop to keep the game scoreless.
Less than 30 seconds later, Graceland struck first with a goal.
Henriksen looked to tie the game in the 29
th minute but once again Graceland's keeper was there to make the stop.
Savannah Smith took a shot on goal with seven seconds left in the first half but Graceland's keeper made her third save of the game to keep Graceland up 1-0 heading into halftime.
Graceland found the back of the net for their second goal in the 64
th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead.
In the 68
th minute, the Owls had possession. The ball bounced off a Graceland defender and landed at Willingham's feet who struck the ball past the Graceland keeper to put the Owls on the board.
Abby Prather-Turner looked to even the score in the 71
st minute, but Graceland's keeper made her fourth and final save of the game to keep the Owls to one goal.
Michyla Handley recorded three saves in goal through the 90 minutes in goal.

The Owls host Missouri Valley College on Tuesday, August 27, at 5 p.m. for their home-opener.
