MARSHALL, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team tied the game up with under a minute to play at Missouri Valley College Tuesday evening, but MVC scored just three seconds before the final whistle to defeat the Owls 2-1. The Owls fall to 0-2 on the season.
Aurora Henriksen looked to strike first as she blasted a shot in the 15
thminute, but MVC's keeper made the stop. MVC then scored the first goal of the game in the 19
thminute to take a 1-0 lead.
Abbie Gilblair took back-to-back shots on goal just after being subbed in towards the second part of the first half, but both were stopped. The Owls were unable to fire off another shot and headed into halftime trailing 1-0.

Michyla Handley made two stops throughout the second half to keep the game at 1-0.
With 52 seconds on the clock, freshman
Savannah Smith scored her first collegiate goal from just inside the box after passes from
Abby Wilson and
Tayler LePage set her up to even the score.
MVC countered with a shot on goal just 14 seconds later, but Handley made the stop. With the ball still with MVC with three seconds remaining on the clock, MVC put one in from the top of the box to win the game.
The Owls took nine shots with five landing on goal.
Michyla Handley recorded seven saves in the 90 minutes.

The Owls host College of Saint Mary (Neb.) on Saturday, Aug. 31, for their home-opener. First touch is slated for 1 p.m. at Firley Field.
