Owls Soccer Hosts No. 14 Bellevue University in Home Opener

FULTON, Mo. – William Woods University Men's Soccer plays their first home game of the season Thursday Sept. 5th as they host No. 14 Bellevue University. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Firley Field.
 
About Bellevue
Despite being ranked 14th in the nation, they've been having early season struggles. They lost their season opener to Morningside in a double overtime contest that resulted in Bellevue losing 1-2. The Bruins redeemed themselves in their next match defeating Grand View 1-0, but the win was short lived as they suffered two straight losses to RV Benedictine (Kan.) and No. 20 Columbia. Their last time out they fell 1-2 to Sterling (Kan.) on Aug. 31st.

As of right now, the Bruins currently hold one national ranking; they rank 30th overall in total shutouts (1). Collectively, they have scored four goals this season for a total of 12 points.
Inaki Aldao is the only Bellevue University player with a national ranking. He currently sits in the 13th overall spot in total game winning goals (1).

Andy Janssen is leading the way for the Bruins with two goals on the season. He scored his first goal against Morningside and his second against Sterling. He also recorded a career high four shouts against Morningside.

Joel Roesler and Inaki Aldao are the only other Bruins with goals this season.
 
About William Woods
The Owls, who are also having early season struggles are currently 1-3 overall. They opened their season against No. 1 Central Methodist University (Mo.) in which they fell 0-1. In their second match of the contest they faced Graceland University in which they fell 1-2.

After a slow start to the 2019 campaign, they were able to capture their first win on Aug. 30th when they defeated Doane College 2-0. But they would suffer another defeat; this time coming at the hands of No. 15 Hastings College (Neb.) which the Mustangs won 2-3.

WWU is tied for the 30th national ranking in total shutouts (1). As a team they have scored a total of five goals. They have also recorded 13 shots on goal.

Zachary Baliva is the only Owls with a national ranking. He ties BU's Aldao in total game winning goals (1).

Billy Nzojyibwami currently leads William Woods with two goals on the season. Balivia, Johnathon Brown and Logan Christopher sit behind him with one goal each.
 
History between Bellevue and William Woods
The first meeting between the Owls and Bruins was on Aug. 29, 2000. WWU defeated BU 2-0. From then, they faced each other three more times in which one game resulted in a tie. Bellevue currently holds a 2-1-1 series lead. William Woods looks to even the series Thursday night.
