Owls Use Strong Second Half to Top HLGU

HANNIBAL, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team used a strong second half to defeat Hannibal-LaGrange University Thursday evening. In the win, freshman Darius Yohe tied the WWU season record for blocks with 43. The Owls move to 9-10 on the season with a 5-7 conference mark.
 
The Owls end their four-game road stretch at St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.

Game Flow
Darius Yohe scored the first four points for the Owls to take a two-point lead just over a minute into the game, 4-2. 
 
The Owls powered a 7-0 run over a two-minute span to take a seven-point lead with 15:17 on the clock after HLGU evened the score for the second time.
 
A three from Makenzie Fessler gave the Owls an eight-point lead with 13:53 to play, but HLGU struck a 9-0 run to take the lead with 9:06 on the board, 15-14.
 
A three from Ian Hodges took back the lead, but HLGU immediately answered with a 6-0 run.
 
The lead changed three more times over the next six minutes, and with 1:51 on the clock, HLGU evened the score for the sixth time, 26-26.
 
With six seconds on the clock, Tyriel Nelson went 2-for-2 from the foul line to give the Owls a 28-26 advantage heading into halftime.
 
Yohe was 4-for-5 from the field at the end of 20 minutes. 
 
In the first five minutes of the second half, the Owls blasted a 14-2 run to take a 14-point lead, 42-28. 
 
HLGU knocked the game to seven, but D'Aaron Owens hit a three with 10:45 on the clock to give the Owls a 10-point lead. 
 
The Owls maintained a 10-point lead over the next four minutes, but with 3:39 on the clock, HLGU cut the game to eight.
 
The Owls held HLGU scoreless for over two minutes while pushing a 7-0 run to bring them back up by 15 with 1:38 to play, 64-49.
 
HLGU scored one on a free throw to break their silence.
 
With 28 seconds on the clock, Codi Whitlock hit a jumper to put the Owls up by 16, 66-50.
 
HLGU scored the final points of the game with a long jumper with 16 seconds on the clock, 66-52.
