Yohe Breaks Season Blocks Record Against STLCOP

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Freshman Darius Yohe broke the William Woods University season blocks record in Saturday's loss at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Yohe, averaging 2.2 blocks per game, broke the year-old record with 44 just over halfway through the season.
 
The 87-80 loss puts the Owls at 9-11 on the season with a 5-8 conference mark.
 
The team returns home for a game versus Columbia College on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. The Association of Student-Athletes (ASA) will host their first of two American Red Cross Fundraisers at the game.
 
By The Numbers
44 – After tying the season blocks record last game, Darius Yohe recorded one block in the game to break the season record with 44.
22 – Makenzie Fessler posted 22 points while going 7-for-12 from the field and 7-for-8 from the foul line.
17 – Treshawn Gause added 17 points to the game (5-for-13 FG, 6-for-7 FT).
11 – Yohe posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
5 – Fessler dished in a floor-high five assists. 
3 ­– Tyriel Nelson grabbed a floor-high three steals. 
 
Game Flow
STLCOP got on the board first, but Tyriel Nelson quickly answered with a three to put the Owls up by one just 38 seconds into the game. 
 
The lead bounced back-and-forth twice with two ties in there, but two free throws by Makenzie Fessler gave the Owls a four-point lead just under five minutes in, 11-7. 
 
A two from Treshawn Gause tied the game up for the third time after STLCOP took the lead, but STLCOP then blasted a 9-0 run to take a 24-15 lead with 11:44 to play in the first half. 
 
The Owls were only able to cut the game to five, and after a two from Gause to bring the game within six with just under five minutes to play, STLCOP pushed a 6-0 run for their first double-digit lead, 40-28.
 
A short jumper from Gause cut the lead to nine, but STLCOP scored the final points of the half to send the teams to the locker room with WWU trailing 42-31.
 
STLCOP held a steady 10-point lead up until just under halfway through.
 
With 12:34 on the clock, Fessler hit a jump shot to begin an 8-0 run that brought the Owls within four with 9:45 left to play. 
 
The Owls cut the game to four again with a 7-0 run after STLCOP pushed their lead back to 11. 
 
A three from Andrew Nett with 3:23 on the clock put the Owls within three, 72-69, but STLCOP quickly pushed their lead back to eight.
 
Gause scored the Owls next nine points with six coming from free throws to cut the game to five twice.
 
Ian Hodges scored the final points for the Owls from the foul line with 7 seconds on the clock to bring the game to 85-80. 
 
Fouling to stop the clock, the Owls once again sent STLCOP to the line. For the fourth time in the final minute, STLCOP went 2-for-2 from the line to end the game with the score 87-80.
