Owls Win Seventh Straight with Sweep Over HLGU

HANNIBAL, Mo. – For the second time this season, the William Woods University women's basketball team is on a seven-game winning streak following Thursday's sweep over Hannibal-LaGrange University. The win brings the Owls to 15-4 on the season with a 9-4 conference mark. The Owls are currently tied for fourth place with Williams Baptist in the American Midwest Conference. 
 
The scoring was spread out between eight players in Thursday's win with Kaycee Gerald leading the way with 17.
 
The Owls end their four-game road stretch at St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
58.3 – The Owls shot 58.3 percent from the field in the first half. They ended the game with a 45.2 shooting percentage.
17 – Kaycee Gerald led the floor with 17 points. She went 6-for-11 from the field and 5-for-6 from the foul line.

Game Flow
The Owls pushed out a 25-11 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. HLGU scored first with a three, but a 9-0 run from the Owls put them up by six with 6:49 on the clock, 9-3.
 
Kasey Hazell scored seven unanswered points to give the Owls a 10-point lead after HLGU hit a three to bring the game within three.
 
HLGU brought the game difference within single digits twice, but Ashleigh Frampton scored three points to give the Owls a 12-point lead. 
 
Caitlin Hicks scored the final points of the quarter to send the Owls into the second with a 14-point lead, 25-11.
 
Carleigh Jenkins hit a three with 7:05 on the clock in the second quarter to give the Owls a 20-point lead.
 
The Owls pushed a 10-2 run halfway through the quarter to take a 25-point lead, 48-23. 
 
HLGU scored on back-to-back buckets to bring the game within 20, but Jenkins scored the final points of the half to send the team into the locker room with the Owls up 50-28.
 
The Owls opened the second half with a 9-0 run, holding HLGU from scoring for almost eight minutes. HLGU finally scored with 2:18 on the clock to stop the Owls run. Frampton hit a three to end the quarter with a 30-point lead, 64-34.
 
HLGU cut the game to 25 after opening the final quarter with a 5-0 run. Jenkins hit a three to pause the run, and Peyton Greenlee scored three points to put the Owls back up by 29 with 2:50 to play.
 
The Owls allowed HLGU to score just once more in the final time, ending the game with a 70-43 win.
