Owls Edged Out by Columbia, 59-54

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team was edged out by Columbia College Thursday evening, 59-54. The Owls drop to 9-12 on the season with a 5-9 conference mark.
 
Freshman Darius Yohe recorded his third consecutive double-double with 13 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. 
 
The Owls continue their four-game home stretch as they host Lindenwood University-Belleville on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
17 – Darius Yohe pulled down 17 boards with 10 coming from the defensive end.
15 – Makenzie Fessler recorded a team-high 15 points.
13 – Yohe posted 13 points as he went 6-for-9 from the field.
12 – Tyriel Nelson was one rebound away from a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
6 – Treshawn Gause dished in six assists.
3 – Yohe blocked three CC shots.
 
Game Flow
The two teams traded buckets and the lead for the first three minutes of play, but with 16:39 on the clock, CC began a 10-0 run to take a 15-5 lead.
 
Andrew Nett broke the Owls four minutes of silence with a three.
 
CC pushed out a 14-point lead with 6:05 to play, 30-16. They maintained a double-digit lead until Darius Yohe hit a hook shot to cut the game to eight with 2:04 on the board, 34-26.
 
Tyriel Nelson brought the game to eight again with 33 seconds on the clock after CC scored, but CC went 1-for-2 from the foul line to send the game into halftime with CC leading 37-28.
 
The Owls powered a 10-0 run ending with a dunk from Yohe to start the second half, taking their first lead of the game since early in the first. 
 
CC responded with five points of their own to take up a four-point lead with 12:39 remaining. 
 
Nelson brought the game within two twice, but each time CC responded with a bucket of their own. A three with 8:48 on the clock put CC up by seven, and CC managed to push out a double-digit lead with 5:11 on the clock after a technical.
 
Fired up, the Owls pushed a 7-0 run over a two-minute span to bring the game back within four with 2:08 on the clock, 55-51.
 
With 14 seconds on the clock, Makenzie Fessler hit a three to bring the Owls within three. 
 
In desperation, the Owls fouled to stop the clock with 6 seconds on it. CC missed the bonus shot, but they pulled down their own rebound and went back up with it to end the game with a 59-54 loss.
