RV Owls Upset No. 15 Columbia, Win Ninth Straight

FULTON, Mo. – With their ninth consecutive win, the RV William Woods University women's basketball team upset No. 15 Columbia College, 68-63. This is the second upset over a ranked team this season. 
 
The Owls move to 17-4 on the season with an 11-4 conference mark. 
 
The Owls, with a perfect 9-0 record in Anderson Arena this season, host Lindenwood University-Belleville on Saturday, Feb. 1.  Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
16 – Rylie Cox scored a team-high 16 points while going 7-for-11 from the field. 
15 – Kaycee Gerald and Peyton Greenlee each added 15 points to the win.
7 – Greenlee pulled down a team-high seven rebounds with six coming from the defensive end.
6 – Gerald dished in six assists.
3 – Gerald and Greenlee each recorded three steals. Gerald is just one steal away from tying the WWU season record.
 
Game Flow
The Owls pushed out a 5-0 lead just over a minute into the game, and with a fast break layup from Rylie Cox, the Owls took a six-point lead with 5:29 to play in the first quarter, 11-5.
 
CC scored the next six to even the score with 3:17 on the clock, and they took the lead with a two-point bucket with 1:34 to play. 
 
Cox hit a three to go back up by two, and Carleigh Jenkins hit a three with 31 seconds on the clock to give the Owls a five-point lead heading into the second quarter, 18-13.
 
CC cut the game to one with back-to-back jumpers to start the second quarter, but Ashleigh Frampton and Kaycee Gerald scored back-to-back baskets to take up a five-point lead again, 22-17.
 
A traditional three-point play by Peyton Greenlee gave the Owls an eight-point lead with 5:50 remaining in the half.
 
Back-to-back fast break layups from Cox completed an Owls' 6-0 run to give the team their first and only double-digit lead of the game with 1:28 to play, 35-24.
 
CC scored the final points of the half, bringing the game back within six heading into halftime, 35-29.
 
After CC brought the game within two, the Owls pushed back out by seven. CC brought the game within one bucket a handful more times, and with under two minutes to play, they pushed a 7-1 run to head into the fourth with their first lead since the first quarter, 49-48.
 
After over two minutes of silence from both ends to start the final quarter, Jazlyn Drake finally put one in to give the Owls a one-point lead, 50-49.
 
A neck-and-neck game, the Owls and CC traded the lead six times with three ties over the next five minutes.  
 
Cox drained a three with 2:56 on the clock to put the Owls back up by one, 60-59, and Greenlee added a short jumper to give the Owls a three-point boost. 
 
CC cut the game to one, but Greenlee went 2-for-2 from the foul line to keep the Owls' lead at three with 37 seconds to go. 
 
Under 10 seconds later, CC brought the game within one again with two free throws, but Gerald was fouled and sent to the line. She sunk both with 21 seconds on the clock, once again giving the Owls a three-point lead, 66-63.
 
In a last-ditch attempt to regain possession, CC fouled. With 1 second on the clock, Kasey Hazell made both free throws to give the Owls a five-point win over the ranked team, 68-63.
