Owls Fall to Freed-Hardeman

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team struggle to find their footing in conference play as they fell to Freed-Hardeman University Thursday evening, 78-64. The Owls are currently on a five-game losing streak, falling to 3-7 in conference play with a 7-10 overall record. 
 
The Owls will host Family and Friends Day on Saturday, Jan. 11, as they host Williams Baptist University. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
 
By The Numbers
49 – The Owls scored 49 of their 64 points in the second half.
47.5 – The Owls shot 47.5 percent from the field in the second half.
22 – Makenzie Fessler and Treshawn Gause each scored a team-high 22 points. Both hit nine field goals.
9 – Fessler pulled down a floor-high nine boards with eight coming from the defensive end. 
4 – Gause dished in a team-high four assists.
3 – Darius Yohe blocked three FHU shots. 
 
Game Flow
The Owls managed just 15 points in the first half. After scoring two buckets, the Owls let FHU take up an 18-point lead with 8:02 on the clock. Seven of the Owls' first half points came from a 7-0 run spanning three minutes to take the game to 4:26 on the clock. FHU ended the half on a 6-0 run to lead 33-15.
 
The Owls just about doubled their score just 3:27 into the second half, 43-29.
 
Halfway through the second half, FHU held a 22-point lead, 58-36.
 
Treshawn Gause scored seven unanswered points in an Owls' 9-0 run to bring them within 13 with 7:35 to play, 58-45.
 
FHU halted the run and went back up by 16, but Gause hit back-to-back jumpers to begin a 7-0 run. A traditional three-point play by Makenzie Fessler brought the Owls within single digits, their first time since 10 minutes into the game, 62-53.
 
FHU went back up by 11, but Fessler once again laid it up to bring the Owls back within nine with 4:10 to play, 64-55.
 
FHU pushed out a 15-point lead after a traditional three-point play on a fast break lay up. 
 
After a technical on FHU's coach, Ian Hodges sunk both free throws to bring the Owls within 12. Gause followed with two good free throws in bonus with 1:13 on the clock to bring the Owls within 10, 74-64.
 
FHU scored the final four points of the game in the final minute, ending the game with a 78-64 loss.
