Dominating Second Quarter Pushes Owls Past HSSU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team bounced back to their winning ways on Thursday evening with a 74-61 win over Harris-Stowe State University. The Owls, returning to the floor after their 11-game winning streak was snapped last Saturday, moves to 20-5 on the season with a 14-5 conference mark.
 
The Owls return home on Saturday, Feb. 15, for their final weekend home game. The Owls will honor the five seniors just prior to the 1 p.m. tip-off.
 
By The Numbers
29 – The Owls dominated HSSU in the second quarter, 29-11.
26 – Peyton Greenlee hit four three-pointers and went 10-for-22 from the field for a 26-point outing.
20 – This is the Owls' 20th 20+ win season since the program's inception.
15 – Kaycee Gerald added 15 points to the win.
8 – Gerald posted eight rebounds and eight assists, coming up just shy of a triple double. The eight assists is just one under the game day record.

Game Flow
HSSU jumped out to a six-point lead halfway through the first quarter, 10-4, but the Owls ended the quarter with a 7-1 run to even the score heading into the second, 11-11.
 
HSSU hit a three to start the second quarter, but Jazlyn Drake went 2-for-2 from the foul line to begin the Owls' 11-0 run. The two-minute run gave the Owls an eight-point lead with 6:07 on the clock, 22-14.
 
The Owls closed out the half with a powerful 18-4 run, taking up an 18-point lead heading into the locker rooms, 40-22.
 
It took the Owls just over three minutes into the second half to get on the board. HSSU managed to cut the game to 11 twice.
 
Two free throws and a good jumper from Rylie Cox put the Owls back up by 15 with 3:46 to play in the third quarter. HSSU cut the game to 10 with just over a minute to play, but Kaycee Gerald and Ashleigh Frampton closed out the quarter with a 4-0 run to hold a 14-point lead, 60-46.
 
The Owls and HSSU traded points for the first half of the final quarter, but HSSU had a 4-0 run with just under six minutes to play to cut the game to 12.
 
Gerald was sent to the line on the next play. She sunk both free throws, extending the Owls' lead back to 14 with 5:30 on the clock, 69-55.
 
Two free throws from Cox put the Owls up by 15 again with 3:11 to play, but HSSU cut the game to 11 with 55 seconds to play.
 
Fouling to stop the clock, HSSU sent Caitlin Hicks to the line. She went 1-for-2 to put the Owls up by 12, and Cox went 1-for-2 went she was sent to seal the Owls' win with a 74-61 final score.
