Owls Drop Two to No. 8 FHU

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The William Woods University baseball team dropped two to No. 8 Freed-Hardeman University. The Owls fell 4-1 in game one. The Owls and FHU went into 14 innings in game two before FHU scored three to win 4-1. The Owls fall to 7-5 on the season with a 0-3 start in AMC play.
 
The Owls next play a non-conference game at Culver-Stockton College on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. 
 
 
Game One
FHU score a run in the first and a second in the third to take a 2-0 lead. They added two more in the fifth inning on two RBI singles to take a 4-0 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh, Tyklen Salmons reached base on a two-out error. He advanced to second on a stolen base and crossed home plate on Eric Rothermich's double to center field. Rothermich was then left stranded as FHU grabbed the final out to end the game with a 4-1 score.
 
Rothermich went 2-for-4 from the plate with a double and an RBI. 
 
Logan Bexton (1-3) pitched the complete game. He threw five strikeouts through six innings while allowing four runs.
 
 
Game Two
The Owls and FHU went into 14 innings. 
 
In the top of the sixth, Rothermich hit a one-out single to just over second base. He advanced to third on Jordan Smith's single to right field and scored on an error to take a 1-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, FHU evened the score with a home run. 
 
The game remained tied until the 14th inning when FHU hit a walk-off three run homer to end the game with a 4-1 win.
 
Spencer Burnham (2-1) was credited with the loss. He pitched the final 5.2 innings and struck out seven. Dylan Hansen started on the mound and pitched 7.0 innings while striking out 10.
