O'FALLON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team opened the Missouri Baptist University series with an eight-inning 13-3 loss.
The loss drops the Owls to 7-6 on the season with a winless conference record four games in.
The Owls face MBU in a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, at Car Shield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri.
Game Flow
MBU opened the scoring with three runs in the third and added two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth,
Isaiah Gibbs hit a two-run bomb over the left field fence to get the Owls on the board.
MBU scored one in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to bring their lead to four, 6-2.
Marcus Gonzalez hit a one-out triple in the sixth inning, and
Easton Wallace followed with an RBI double to bring him in. Wallace was left stranded in scoring position though as the last two outs came.
MBU scored four in the sixth and three in the eighth to run rule the Owls.
The Owls were held to just six hits. Wallace and Gonzalez each went 2-for-4 from the plate. Wallace had a triple and an RBI; Gonzalez had a triple and a run scored.
Tristan Steffens (3-2) was credited with the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings and struck out three.
