Owls Upset No. 21 Central Baptist

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team upset No. 21 Central Baptist College Thursday evening, 66-57. CBC ranked 21st in the NAIA following Wednesday's Top-25 Coaches' Poll and currently leads the American Midwest Conference. With the win, the Owls move to 11-12 on the season with a 7-9 conference mark. 
 
Makenzie Fessler and Darius Yohe recorded double-doubles in the win.
 
The Owls complete their home stretch on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a 3 p.m. game versus Lyon College.
 
By The Numbers
18 – Makenzie Fessler posted 18 points en route to a double-double.
13 – Darius Yohe posted a game-high 13 rebounds en route to a double-double.
12 – Fessler pulled down 12 boards with nine coming from the defensive end.
11 – Three Owls scored 11 points in the upset.
5 – Yohe blocked five CBC shots, and Tyriel Nelson grabbed five steals.

Game Flow
Makenzie Fessler hit a three to start the game, and the Owls jumped out to a dominating 11-point lead following a 10-0 run just four minutes in, 13-2. 
 
A fast break jumper from CBC cut the game to eight, but Makenzie Fessler and D'Aaron Owens hit jumpers to take a 12-point lead with 14:09 on the clock, 17-5.
 
CBC managed to cut the game to five with 11:51 left in the first half.
 
Back-to-back buckets from Ian Hodges and a jumper from Fessler put the Owls up by 12, but CBC followed with an 8-0 run to cut the game to four, 28-24.
 
Darius Yohe scored the next seven points for the Owls, helping the team to a nine-point lead with 2:47 left in the half, 35-26. 
 
CBC scored 11 points in the final 2:33 of the half to take their first lead of the game just before halftime, 37-36. With their final points of the run coming off a dunk, CBC got a technical with one second on the clock. Hodges made the second one free throw, sending the game into halftime with CBC leading 37-36.
 
Fessler scored first for the Owls to even the score at 38-38, but CBC hit one free throw to take back the lead, 39-38.
 
Fessler once again evened the score with 11:35 on the clock after CBC took up a four-point lead.
 
Free throws from Tyriel Nelson and Yohe put the Owls up by three, but CBC scored five straight to flip the score once again, 48-46. 
 
As the shot clock expired, Hodges hit a long three to put the Owls up by one with 6:09 on the clock and start an 8-0 run, 51-50. The run ended with a dunk by Codi Whitlock to take the 56-50 lead with 4:00 to play.
 
Andrew Nett hit a three to put the Owls back up by six after CBC cut it to three, and Nelson added two from the foul line to give the Owls an eight-point lead with just under two minutes to play, 61-53.
 
Fouling to stop the clock, CBC sent the Owls to the line four times in the final minutes. The Owls completed the win with a 66-57 score.
