Owls Split at Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team split at Evangel Saturday. The Owls were shutout in game one, 9-0, but bounced back with a 5-2 win in game two.
 
Next up for the Owls is the Joplin Midwest Preview on Feb. 15-16. 
 
 
Game One
EU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single. The Owls' defense pulled out of the inning with bases still loaded.
 
EU added another in the fourth with an RBI double. 

In the fifth inning, EU put up five runs on six hits. They added two more to take a 9-0 lead in the sixth inning.
 
The Owls finished with eight hits. Easton Wallace and Trevor Garriott went 2-for-3 from the plate.
 
Logan Bexton (1-1) was credited with the loss after starting the game. He pitched 3.1 innings and struck out two.
 
 
Game Two
EU took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single.
 
The Owls powered a four-run inning in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead. With two outs, Jack Neggemeier singled to shortstop. Bases were then loaded with two walks, and Easton Wallace tripled to clear the bases. He then scored on the same play with a bobble by left field. 
 
The Owls added one more in the top of the fifth with Wallace's fourth RBI of the game.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, EU scored one with one out. Davin Marcomb came in as relief and closed out the inning with a strikeout and a line out. 
 
Wallace went 2-for-3 with a triple, four RBI and one run scored. Neggemeier went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Matthews went 2-for-3.
 
Tristan Steffens (2-0) pitched the first 5.0 innings and was credited with the win. He struck out five while allowing just one run.
