Box Score 3 JOPLIN, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team went 2-1 on the weekend at the Joplin Midwest Preview. The Owls move to 7-2 on the season.
The Owls dropped game one of the weekend to Robert Morris (Ill.), 9-4. They followed with a 14-2 game two win over Graceland. On Sunday, the Owls finished with a come from behind win 5-3 win over Midland.
The Owls begin conference play with a three-game series at No. 8 Freed-Hardeman on Friday, Feb. 21. The single nine inning game begins at 4 p.m. with the doubleheader taking place at noon on Saturday.

RMU took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI ground out.
Chase Gibson hit an RBI single to score Bryce Matthews and even the score in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the third, RMU scored three to take the lead. They added three more in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Jordan Smith hit a three-run home run to bring the game to 7-4.
In the top of the seventh, RMU added two more runs to take a 9-4 lead. The Owls were unable to score in the bottom of the inning, ending with a 9-4 loss.
Smith went 2-for-4 from the plate with a home run and three RBI.

The Owls took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
Tim Redford hit a two RBI double to deep left field to bring home
Easton Wallace and
Connor Poulson.
Brady Owen came in to pinch run for Redford. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on
Trevor Garriott's single to center field.
The Owls advanced their lead to 13 in the fifth inning with a dominating 10-run inning.
Marcus Gonzalez started the scoring on Wallace's RBI single to left field. Smith hit a two RBI double to clear the bases, and he scored on Redford's sacrifice fly to take a 7-0 lead. WWU loaded the bases, and three scored on Gonzalez's single to center field. Gonzalez then scored on a throwing error, and Poulson scored the final run of the inning on Smith's RBI double to deep right field.
GU scored two in the sixth on a two RBI single, bringing the score to 13-2.
The Owls added one more run in the seventh on a Poulson RBI single to score Wallace and take a 14-2 lead.
Wallace went 3-for-5 from the plate with three runs scored, an RBI and a double. Smith recorded three RBI and two doubles, and Redford recorded three RBI and one double.
Tristan Steffens (2-0) pitched six innings and struck out 11 en route to a win on the mound.
Taylor Nelson pitched the final inning and struck out one.
William Woods def. Midland, 5-3
Midland's third batter of the game hit a homer to take a 1-0 lead. They added a second run in the third on an RBI single.
In the top of the fourth, Wallace scored to bring the game to 2-1.
In the top of the sixth with bases loaded, MU walked in Gonzalez. Redford followed with a three RBI double to clear the bases and put the Owls in the lead, 5-2.
MU scored one in the seventh on an RBI double to bring the game to 5-3, but the Owls recorded the final out to win the game.
Spencer Burnham recorded the win on the mound.
Davin Marcomb was credited with the save.
