ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The William Woods University softball team dropped two games to Judson University Wednesday afternoon. The Owls fell in game one 5-3 in eight innings and 8-5 in game two. The Owls drop to 7-8 on the season.
The Owls play three games in the Gulf Coast Invitational on Friday, March 6, starting at 11:30 a.m.
Game One
Judson took up a 2-0 lead after four innings with an RBI single in the third and another in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Celeste Sermeno hit a two RBI single to score
Hanna Knipp and
Emma Taylor and tie the score at 2-2.
The two teams remained deadlocked. In the bottom of the seventh, the Owls had bases loaded with two outs but were unable to end the game as the final out came.
Judson put up three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom of the inning,
Anna Counts was placed at second for the international tiebreaker rule. She quickly scored on
Abbi Pringer's RBI double. Pringer moved to third on
Ally Mahoney's single to center field but stayed there as the third out came on a foul pop up.
Sermeno went 2-for-3 from the plate with a double and two RBI; Knipp went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Mychael Jett (2-2) pitched the complete game and was credited with the loss. She worked eight innings and struck out three.
Game Two
The Owls took an early 1-0 lead with
Alexis Hassler's RBI double to score Pringer.
Judson plated five runs in the fourth inning with a two-run home run and a three RBI double.
In the top of the fifth, the Owls scored two unearned runs off an outfield error following Hassler's two RBI single, bringing the game to 5-3, Judson.
The Owls evened the score in the sixth inning with two unearned runs.
Taylor Bell scored on
Anna Counts' error to third base, and with bases loaded,
Regan Wilde was walked in to tie the game.
Judson countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to go back up.
The Owls left two runners stranded the top of the seventh, ending with an 8-5 loss.
Hassler went 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBI, and Pringer crossed home plate twice.
Madison Ausfahl (1-2) was credited with the loss. She pitched 5.0 innings and struck out four while allowing five runs.
Brittany Roady came in as relief and pitched 1.0 innings and struck out one.
