Owls Sweep Lyon in Three

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team swept Lyon College 3-0 for their second conference win of the season. The Owls improve to 13-7 on the season with a 2-1 American Midwest Conference mark.
 
The Owls won 25-18, 25-23, 25-21.
 
Next up for the Owls is a non-conference home match versus Lincoln Christian University on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m.

Game Highlights
The Owls blasted a 5-0 run to start the match with three kills from three different attackers. After Lyon scored two, the Owls added four more to the board with two blocks and a kill to take a 9-2 lesd. Lyon attempted to close the gap after a 3-0 run, but a kill from Kassidy Phillips and a block from Lanie Lowry and Phillips put the Owls back up by seven, 21-14. An ace from Emily Grief ended the set with a 25-18 win.
 
The Owls blasted an 8-0 run after a slow start to take up a 14-5 lead in set two. Lyon closed the game to three points towards the end of set with a 4-0 run, 20-17. An Owls' attack error brought the set to 24-23, but Hannah Kuehl put down a kill to end the set with a 25-23 win.
 
Lyon scored the first three points of set three, but the Owls answered with three consecutive kills to even the score. Lyon held possession of the lead until a kill from Phillips began a 4-0 run to put the Owls up 11-10. A 5-1 run brought the Owls up 16-12, forcing Lyon to call a timeout. Two Owls' errors brought Lyon within two late in the set, 21-19, but kills from Riley Alton and Kuehl brought the Owls to match point, 24-20. A kill from Kuehl ended the match with a 25-21 win.
