FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team came out with a gritty 3-1 win over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Thursday evening. With their fifth straight win, the Owls move to 16-7 on the season with a 3-1 conference mark.
The set scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22.
The Owls next play Hannibal-LaGrange on the road Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m.

Match Highlights
The Owls blasted a 6-1 run to start the match with three kills from
Hannah Kuehl, a kill from
Lanie Lowry and an ace from
Emily Greif. UHSP inched their way back in and evened the score at 10-10. A kill from
Reanna Dodge put the Owls back ahead, and the team sported an 8-2 run to go up 18-12. UHSP again inched their way back into the set, bringing the score to 21-20 following a 4-0 run. A kill from Dodge halted their run, and an ace from Greif brought the Owls to set point, 24-21. A kill from Kuehl ended the set with a 25-23 win.
The Owls again started strong, taking a 4-1 lead to set two, but UHSP blasted a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead. UHSP held onto the lead until a UHSP service error started an Owls' 6-1 run to give the Owls a one-point lead, 14-13. UHSP went back in the lead, and the Owls were unable to catch back up. UHSP won 25-21.
Following a slow start to set three, Kuehl played a part in three points of the 4-0 run to give the Owls a 5-3 lead. The Owls fought their way back in after UHSP took a 10-7 lead, and back-to-back kills from Kuehl followed by an ace from Greif gave the Owls a 14-12 lead. The Owls added a second 4-0 run with kills from
Kassidy Phillips, Lowry and Kuehl to take an 18-14 lead. Kills from
Tess Schannuth and Phillips brought the Owls to set point, 24-20, but UHSP capitalized on three consecutive Owls' errors to bring the set to 24-23. Phillips slammed down a kill to end the set, 25-23.
UHSP held the lead through the bulk majority of set four. With the set tied at 19-19, UHSP committed an attack error to give the Owls the lead. A kill from Kuehl followed by a block from her gave the Owls a 22-19 lead. UHSP answered with two kills, but two UHSP attack errors brought the Owls to match point, 24-21. Lowry scored the final point of the match with a kill to win it 25-22.
