FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University men's basketball team grabbed a 72-62 win over Clarke University Tuesday evening in their home-opener for their first win of the season. The team moves to 1-1 on the season.
The Owls next travel to William Penn University (Iowa) on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.

Game Highlights
The Owls trailed Clarke to start the game, but
Makenzie Fessler hit a jumper in the paint to start an Owls' 9-0 run to give the team a 15-13 lead.
A three from
Nathan Schwartze followed by an in-the-paint bucket from Fessler put the Owls up by five with 11:19 on the clock, 20-15.
Clarke slowly chipped away at the lead, and with 4:30 on the clock, they went up by two, 32-30.
Jared Crutcher tipped the ball in off his offensive rebound with 3:58 on the clock to even the score, and
Mike Robinson hit a three to put the Owls up 35-32.
Crutcher ended the half with back-to-back dunks, sending the Owls into halftime with a six-point lead, 41-35.
Schwartze came into the second half and drained two threes, and
Darius Yohe scored two points in the paint to give the Owls a 14-point lead just over three minutes in, 49-35.
Clarke cut the game to seven on a fast break layup, and an 8-0 run gave them a two-point lead over the Owls with 6:31 on the clock.
Schwartze scored on back-to-back plays to put the Owls back up. A three from Fessler followed by jumpers from Schwartze and Crutcher gave the Owls an eight-point lead with 2:02 to play, 68-60.
In Clarke's final attempt to stop the clock, they fouled. Robinson and
Andrew Nett each hit both their free throws, ending the game with a 72-62 win.
