Owls Grab Fifth Conference Win at WBU

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The William Woods University volleyball team came back from a one-set deficit to defeat Williams Baptist, 3-1. The Owls improve to 18-8 on the season with a 5-2 conference mark.
 
The Owls won 24-26, 25-16, 25-23, 25-13.
 
Next up for the team is a conference match at Columbia College on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.

26 – Tori Rosemann pulled up 26 WBU attacks.
23 – Tess Schannuth assisted in 23 Owls' kills. Alli Gueck assisted in 21.
16 – Lanie Lowry led the floor with 16 kills.
15 – Hannah Kuehl added 15 kills to the day.
8 – Kassidy Phillips put down eight kills with a .471 hitting percentage (8-0-17).

Match Highlights
The Owls started the match with a 4-1 lead, but WBU answered with a 4-0 run of their own. An Owls' 4-0 run with two aces from Tori Rosemann gave the team a 12-10 lead. The Owls stayed one step ahead, and a 3-0 run with kills from Lanie Lowry and Kassidy Phillips and a block from Reanna Dodge gave the Owls a 22-16 lead. WBU finished the set with an 10-2 run to grab a 26-24 win.
 
The Owls trailed in the first part of set two, but a kill from Hannah Kuehl ignited a 6-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. The Owls closed out the set with a 10-2 run to grab the 25-16 win.
 
The two teams were neck-and-neck at the start of set three, but Kuehl played a part in three of the Owls' 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. WBU evened the score at 14-14, and the two teams remained close with the Owls always one step ahead. A block from Dodge followed by a WBU attack error ended the set with a 25-23 win.
 
The Owls sparked a 7-0 run early in set four to take up a 10-4 lead. Lauren Hiestand had two aces in the run. After holding a 17-13 lead, the Owls blasted a 8-0 run to close out the set and match with a 25-13 win.
