Owls Drop a Tough One to Culver-Stockton

CANTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team fell short to Culver-Stockton University this evening, 69-65. The Owls drop to 1-3 on the season.
 
The Owls host next Iowa Wesleyan on Monday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m.
 
By The Numbers:
17 – Natalie Thomas scored a team-high 17 points.
16 – Sydney Booker tallied 16 points this evening.
8 – Kasey Hazell pulled down a team-high eight boards with six coming from the defensive end.
3 – Sydney Booker, Kasey Hazell and Amaya Keeling dished in three assists.
2 – Taneigh Boyd had two steals.
 
Game Highlights
The Owls scored first in the game with a jumper by Booker assisted by Thomas. CSC tied the score in the beginning but the Owls managed to push a strong a 10-0 run, 16-6. A three from Jheda Kennedy followed by a jumper by Hazell ended the first quarter for the Owls with a 21-14 lead.
 
CSC had a 4-0 run to start the second quarter but a jumper by Hazell followed by one free throw by Olivia Hanks held the lead for the Owls. CSC grabbed the lead of the game for the first time in the evening followed by three layups at the paint in a row, 29-28. The lead bounced back-and-forth a few times, until a jumper by Boyd and a three by Kiyanna Rodgers tied the game once again. The game went into half time tied, 35-35.
 
The Owls started the third quarter with the lead once again with a rebound followed by a jumper and one free throw by Hazell. The game remained scoreless for over two minutes until CSC cut the deficit to only three points with a jumper. CSC grabbed the lead of the game once again with a three but Katie Keiholz hit a three back taking the lead to the Owls, 52-50. CSC made one free throw cutting the deficit to only one point at the end of third quarter.
 
The Owls opened the fourth quarter with a three-point lead but CSC quickly tied the game and grabbed the lead. The Owls tried to come back but CSC scored the last point of the game, ending the game with a 69-65 loss.
