Hazell Records Double-Double as Owls Top Baker in Overtime Win

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team outscored Baker University 24-11 in the final 15 minutes of Saturday's overtime game to win 61-55. The Owls improve to 3-5 on the season.

Kasey Hazell recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Owls continue their four-game home stretch as they host College of the Ozarks (Mo.) on Monday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m.

Game Highlights
Natalie Thomas opened the game with a three following Kasey Hazell's steal shortly after the tip. A layup by Thomas put the Owls up 7-3 three minutes in, but Baker evened the score over the next 2 ½ minutes. Katie Keilholz hit a three to go back up, and after two minutes of silence from both teams, Hazell scored in the paint to put the Owls up by five, 12-7. Baker scored the final points of the quarter to cut the game to one heading into the second, 15-14.
 
Halfway through the second quarter, Baker took the lead, 20-19. Back-to-back buckets from Hazell and Sydney Booker gave the Owls a one-point lead with 3:59 remaining, but Baker pushed out a five-point lead to finish out the half, 30-25.
 
Baker pushed out an eight-point lead three minutes into the second half. A jumper from Keilholz and a Booker layup brought the game within four with 5:15 on the clock, but Baker scored the next five to take a nine-point lead. Taneigh Boyd scored the final points of the quarter to cut the Owls' deficit to seven, 44-37.
 
The Owls outscored Baker 15-8 in the final quarter of regulation to send the game into overtime, and Hazell scored eight of the team's 15 points.

The Owls cut the game to two points as they went 5-for-6 from the foul line in the first two minutes, 44-42. A three from Thomas brought the Owls within one, and a free throw from Hazell followed by a steal and fast break jumper from her gave the Owls' a two-point lead with 2:25 to play, 50-48. A turnaround jumper from Hazell kept the Owls up by two with 1:48 to play, but Baker scored with :07 on the clock to even the score. The Owls were unable to score again, sending the game into overtime.
 
The Owls powered a 9-3 overtime run to grab the 61-55 win. Baker scored two of their three points first from the foul line following an Owls' foul. A three from Thomas gave the Owls a one-point lead with 3:34 to play, 55-54. Kiyanna Rodgers scored the final four points of the game from the foul line.
