Owls Sweep Stephens in Quarterfinals, Advance to Semifinals of AMC Championship

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team swept Stephens College in the quarterfinals round of the American Midwest Conference Championship Tuesday evening. With the 3-0 win, the Owls move to the semifinals round on Friday, Nov. 12.
 
The Owls won 25-18, 25-19, 25-11.
 
The team faces the one-seeded No. 3 Missouri Baptist on Friday, Nov. 12, at 4 p.m. The winner of the semifinal game moves to the finals. The semifinals and championship matches are hosted by Missouri Baptist.

.538 – Hannah Kuehl recorded a .538 hitting percentage after slamming down 15 kills with just one error on 26 attempts.
25 – Tess Schannuth assisted in 25 Owls' kills.
22 – Tori Rosemann dug up a team-high 22 SC attacks.

Match Highlights
After a slow beginning for the Owls, a kill from Hannah Kuehl began a 6-0 run to take a 13-8 lead. A 4-0 run with two kills from Kuehl, a kill from Tess Schannuth and a kill from Lanie Lowry gave the Owls a nine-point lead, 19-10, but Stephens cut the game to three following a 5-0 run. The Owls closed out the set with a 4-0 run ending with a Stephens' attack error, 25-18.
 
The Owls blasted a 4-0 lead to start set two, but Stephens battled back with a 4-0 run to take a two-point lead, 8-6. The Owls responded with a 4-0 run ending with an ace from Alli Gueck to go up two points, 10-8. The Owls sparked a 6-1 run with kills from Reanna Dodge, Schannuth, Lowry and Kuehl and an ace from Lauren Hiestand to take a 19-14 lead. Stephens looked to close the gap, but a kill from Kassidy Phillips ended the set with a 25-19 win.
 
Two kills from Kuehl and three Stephens' errors gave the Owls' a 5-2 lead. A 7-0 run featuring two aces from Gueck and kills from Emily Greif, Riley Alton and Lauren Adams put the Owls up 13-6. The Owls went on to close out the match with a 7-0 run with two kills from Kuehl, two kills from Baylie Petry and three Stephens' errors to win 25-11.
