Owls Dominate Fourth Quarter for Win Over CBC

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team dominated the floor in the fourth quarter, leading them to a 56-47 win over Central Baptist College. The Owls improve to 4-8 on the season.
 
The team closes out their regular season with three road games starting with Monday's game at Central Baptist College at 2 p.m.

Game Flow
The two teams had a slow start to the game, sitting tied at 6-6 five minutes in. Arriyonn Phillips hit a three with 3:51 on the clock to put the Owls up by three, but CBC scored on two consecutive shots in the paint to take a one-point lead, 10-9. Kasey Hazell put the Owls back up by one heading into the second quarter after going 2-for-2 from the foul line with nine seconds on the clock.
 
CBC began the second quarter with a 6-0 run, taking a five-point lead two minutes in, 16-11. With 3:53 on the clock, CBC held a six-point lead, but the Owls closed out the half with a 5-0 run. The Owls trailed by one after 20 minutes of play, 20-19.
 
Hazell started off the half with a short jumper, and Natalie Thomas hit a three just over a minute in to give the Owls a four-point lead, 24-20. CBC answered with a 6-0 run to take back the lead, and the two teams traded buckets over the next few minutes. A fast break layup by Phillips put the Owls up with 4:51 on the clock. A three from Phillips three minutes later gave the Owls a four-point lead, but CBC struck a 7-0 run with a technical foul to take a three-point lead, 39-36. Tori Nesslage scored the final bucket of the quarter to send the game into the fourth with the Owls trailing by one, 39-38.
 
Thomas hit a three to begin the final quarter, and the Owls stayed one step ahead and the teams traded baskets. With 6:36 on the clock, Thomas was fouled on a good fast break layup from Amaya Keeling. Her traditional three-point play began an Owls' 7-0 run over the next three minutes. CBC cut the game to five with 3:04 on the clock, but Phillips and Nesslage combined for a 6-0 run to take an 11-point lead with 36 seconds to play. CBC scored the final points of the game, ending it with a nine-point win, 56-47.
