VERSAILLES, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team ended the three-day CMU Series with a split against host Central Methodist University. The Owls dropped game one 10-1 but bounced back for a 3-1 game two win.
The Owls sit 2-2 on the season.
Next up is a four-game series versus Missouri Valley College. The home-opener begins on Friday, March 5, at 4 p.m.
Game One
CMU scored early with an RBI ground out in the bottom of the first. They added five more with an RBI ground out, a three-run homer and a solo home run.
They plated three more over the next two innings to hold a 9-0 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
The Owls got on the board in the top of the sixth with an error, scoring
Chase Gibson.
CMU hit their fourth home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to take up a 10-1 lead.
The Owls were held to four hits with two coming from
Zach Krause.
Dylan Hansen (0-1) was credited with the loss. He pitched 2.0 innings to start the game and struck out one.
Game Two
WWU jumped on the board early to start game two with a two-out
Isaiah Gibbs RBI single to center field to plate
Easton Wallace.
CMU evened the score in the bottom of the second with a two-out home run over right field, their fifth dinger of the day.
In the top of the third, Gibbs hit a two-out homer on the first pitch he saw, putting the Owls back up by one, 2-1. Two errors from CMU allowed
Alex Owens to score, giving the Owls a 3-1 lead.
Ryan Long (1-0) pitched the complete game win. He tossed 7.0 innings and struck out four while allowing just one earned run.
Gibbs went 2-4 from the plate with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.
