Volleyball Defeats Stephens in Four

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team defeated Stephens College 3-1 Tuesday evening to stay undefeated in conference play. The Owls move to 3-0 in AMC play and 3-1 on the season.
 
Next up for the Owls is a home match versus Williams Baptist University at 7 p.m.

53 – Tess Schannuth assisted 53 attacks. 
18 – Baylie Petry put down a team-high 18 kills.
11 – Faith McQueen hit .526 on the night with 11 kills and just one error.
19 – Tori Rosemann dug up a team-high 19 attacks.
13 – Ally Konarzewski and Emily Greif dug up 13 attacks each.
10 – Tess Schannuth recorded a double-double with 10 digs. 
 
Game Flow
The Owls quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead in set one and built upon their lead to go up 16-6. The Owls went on to quickly and easily win the set 25-13.
 
After multiple attack errors to start set two, Stephens took a 7-2 lead. The Owls slowly closed the gap and evened the score at 12-12. The two teams traded the lead, but Hannah Kuehl put down a kill, Kassidy Phillips put down two kills and Emma Doherty served an ace to complete a 4-0 run to bring the Owls to set point, 24-21. A WWU error and three straight kills from SC's Mya Middleton ended the set with a 26-24 loss.
 
After a slow start for the Owls in set three, they managed to pull ahead 13-9 after two kills from Baylie Petry and one from Faith McQueen. After they took a 17-10 lead, Stephens called a timeout. Following the return to play, Stephens closed to gap and evened the score to 20-20. Kuehl smashed down a kill, Ally Konarzewski served an ace, and Petry put down a kill to bring the set to set point, 24-21. An attack error by Stephens ended the set, 25-21.
 
The two teams remained neck-and-neck all the way through set four, sending the set into extra points. After trailing by one, Petry smacked down a kill to even the score at 28-28. A kill from McQueen gave the Owls a one-point lead, and Petry smashed down the match point kill to end it, 30-28.
