Owls Win Fourth Straight, Undefeated in AMC

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University volleyball team won their fourth straight match to remain undefeated in American Midwest Conference play Friday evening. The 3-0 sweep over Williams Baptist University moves them to 4-0 in the AMC with a 4-1 overall record.
 
The Owls won 27-25, 25-21, 25-16.
 
The Owls travel to Lincoln, Ill., for a match versus Lincoln College (Ill.) on Saturday, March 20, at 3 p.m. Originally a triangular, Lincoln Christian had to withdraw due to a COVID quarantine. 
 
By The Numbers
20 – Tess Schannuth recorded 20 assists.
15 – Tori Rosemann dug up 15 attacks. 
11 – Kate Doerhoff hit .409 on the night with 11 kills.
10 – Hannah Kuehl hit .350 on the night with 10 kills.
9 – The team served up nine aces through the three sets.
5 – Hannah Kuehl served up a floor-high five aces.
 
Game Flow
The Owls went up 7-4 to start the match after two WBU attack errors and a kill from Hannah Kuehl, but WBU evened the score. The two teams remained neck-and-neck throughout the remainder of the set. The Owls pulled up a 24-21 lead after back-to-back kills from Kate Doerhoff and Ally Konarzewski, but WBU evened the score once again. Even at 25-25, Doerhoff and Kuehl ended the set with two kills, 27-25. 
 
The Owls and WBU again were neck-and-neck until Kuehl went back to serve. An 8-0 run to put the Owls up 17-10 was fueled by four service aces from Kuehl and four kills coming from four attackers. WBU began to close the gap, bringing the set within three points, 23-20, but Kuehl put down a kill to bring it to set point. Lanie Lowry ended the set with a kill, 25-21.
 
WBU jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start set three, but their own attack errors and two aces from Konarzewski and Kuehl evened the score. The Owls blasted a 9-0 run to put the Owls up 18-10, and the Owls closed out the set with a 25-16 victory to finish out the 3-0 sweep.
