JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team blanked Williams Baptist University this Saturday afternoon at their last game of the regular season. This 5-0 win brings the Owls to 8-1 in conference play and 8-2 overall.
After 14 consecutive shots attempt, a header by
McKenzie Gourley was able to find the back of the net with a header coming from a corner kick's pass by
Hannah Loethen, 1-0.
With the clock hitting the 43
rd minutes mark,
Sydney Balducci scored the second goal for the Owls with an assist from
McKenzie Gourley, extending the lead to 2-0.
The Owls scored early in the second period as they took a 3-0 lead as
Savannah Smith found
Chloe Overkamp who found the back of the net in the 47
th minute.
Four minutes following the previous goal,
Cindy Gonzalez scored her own goal off an assist from Balducci, 4-0.
Lauren Helmert scored the last goal for the Owls with a pass from
Abbie Gilblair to end the game 5-0.
The Owls outshot WBU, 41-2.
The Owls will host the winner of University of Hannibal-LaGrange or University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in the quarterfinals of the AMC Championship on Friday, Apr. 2, at 7 p.m. HLG and UHSP will face off in the opening round of the AMC Championship on Tuesday, March 30.
