FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University women's soccer team defeated University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy 5-1 in the American Midwest Conference Championship Quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. The Owls improve to 9-2.
The team will host Missouri Baptist in the AMC Semifinals on Monday, April 5. The game time is TBD.
The Owls fired off 15 shots before
Cindy Gonzalez connected in the 33
rd minute to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. After three more missed shots,
Lauren Helmert connected off
Abbie Gilblair's cross to put the Owls up 2-0 just before halftime.
Just under 15 minutes into the second half, Gonzalez connected on her second goal of the game off
Sydney Balducci's assist to give the Owls a 3-0 lead.
In the 65
th minute, Balducci scored the Owls' fourth goal off Helmert's crossbar shot. Gilblair scored the Owls' fifth and final goal of the game in the 81
st minute.
With just under two minutes to play, UHSP found the back of the net to break the Owls' shutout.
The Owls outshot UHSP 37-1.
