FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to University of St. Francis (Ill.) Monday afternoon. The Owls lost game one 6-2 and game two 11-7.
The Owls fall to 6-12 on the season.
Game One
USF took the lead with a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
They added two more in the fourth with a RBI double and another sacrifice fly.
Katie Gaus led off the bottom of the fourth with a double and scored the Owls' first run on
Arianna Donovan's RBI fielder's choice.
Devyn Burton reached base on a fielder's choice and scored on
Mia Santos' triple to the right field fence, cutting the game to 3-2.
USF scored one in the sixth and capped off the game with two runs in the seventh to win 6-2.
Game Two
USF scored three runs in the top of the first and extended their lead to 6-0 in the fourth.
In the bottom of the inning, the Owls plated four to cut the game to 6-4. With bases loaded and no outs,
Celeste Sermeno scored the Owls' first run on
Ally Mahoney's RBI ground out to short. Following the second out,
Sydney Wilbeck loaded up the bases again.
Emma Taylor then hit a base clearing triple to score
Hanna Knipp,
Jaden Swift and Wilbeck.
USF powered a five-running inning in the sixth to take up an 11-4 lead.
The Owls rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh before USF ended the game, 11-7.
Mallory Feldewerth hit a RBI double to score Taylor, and Burton hit a RBI single to score Santos. Feldewerth then scored on the play following an overthrow by the third baseman.
