Softball Splits with Judson (Ill.)

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team split with Judson University (Ill.) Sunday afternoon. The Owls won game one of the split, 6-1, before succumbing to a late game 4-1 loss in game two. The Owls move to 5-5 on the season.
 
The Owls next host Briar Cliff (Iowa) for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 10, starting at 1 p.m.
 
Game One
The Owls led off their home-opener with two triples. Emma Taylor hit a triple down the right field line to lead off and was easily brought home on Mia Santos' triple on the next at bat. Santos then scored on Ally Mahoney's at bat to give the Owls a 2-0 lead after the first inning. 
 
Judson scored one in the top of the second on an RBI single to bring the game to 2-1.
 
On two outs in the bottom of the second, the Owls loaded up the bases with Arianna Donovan up to bat as the cleanup hitter. Donovan singled to right field to bring home Taylor and Santos. Mahoney then singled to left field, bringing Hanna Knipp home to give the Owls a 5-1 lead.
 
The Owls added one more run in the fifth on a Katie Gaus RBI single to left field, scoring Lindy Wilson and taking a 6-1 lead.
 
Alexis Hassler (4-1) pitched the complete game win. She threw three strikeouts and allowed just one run through her seven innings of work. 
 
Santos went 3-4 from the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. Donovan and Mahoney each recorded two RBI, and Burton went 2-2 from the plate.
 
The Owls outhit Judson 10-5.
 
Game Two
After 3 ½ quick innings, the Owls plated a run to take a 1-0 lead. After reaching on a walk to lead off the inning, Jaden Swift moved to second on Knipp's sacrifice bunt and scored on Donovan's single to the right field fence. 
 
Judson evened the score in the top of the sixth on a fielder's choice and took the lead in the top of the seventh after scoring three runs. 
 
The Owls were unable to score in the bottom of the inning, ending with a 4-1 loss in game two. 
 
Ashlyn Towery (0-3) started in the circle and was credited with the loss. She tossed 6.1 innings and struck out three.
 
Donovan went 3-3 from the plate with one RBI. Taylor, Feldewerth and Burton each recorded two hits at the plate.
