FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University softball team dropped a pair of games to no. 11 Columbia Tuesday afternoon.
The Owls dropped game one, 4-0. Columbia went on to win game two in five innings, 13-0. They fall to 12-16 on the season with a 5-5 conference mark. Columbia remains undefeated in conference play with an 11-0 record.
Next up is the make-up date for Missouri Baptist. The two teams will play the doubleheader on Thursday, April 15, starting at 2 p.m.
Game One
Columbia scored two unearned runs in the fourth on a dropped fly ball to take a 2-0 lead. They added a third run in the fifth with a RBI double, and scored the fourth and final run of the game on a RBI single in the sixth inning.
Hanna Knipp went 2-3 from the plate for the Owls.
Ally Mahoney recorded the Owls' third hit of the game.
Kalee Wall (4-4) pitched the complete game. She allowed just two earned runs and struck out one.
Game Two
Columbia put three runs up in each of the first three innings to take a 9-0 lead. They added four more in the fifth to take a 13-0 lead. The Owls were unable to close the gap in the bottom of the inning, ending the game early.
Alexis Hassler (8-7) pitched 2.1 innings and was credited with the loss.
Ashlyn Towery came in as relief and pitched the remaining 2.2 innings.
