Owls Drop Two to Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The William Woods University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Lyon College Saturday afternoon. The 4-1 and 8-3 losses brings the Owls to 12-13 on the season, 5-9 in conference play. 
 
The Owls close out the four-game series with the Lyons on Sunday with their second doubleheader. First pitch of game one starts at 1 p.m.
 
Game One
The Owls led off game one with an Easton Wallace RBI single to plate Marcus Gonzalez, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
 
Lyon hit a homer in the bottom of the inning to even the score. They added their second run in the second on a RBI double play. A RBI single in the bottom of the third gave Lyon a 3-1 lead, and they scored their fourth and final run of the game in the sixth on a RBI single. 
 
The Owls recorded just four hits with two coming out of Bryson Matthews.
 
Logan Bexten (2-2) pitched the complete game loss. He struck out two while allowing four earned runs. 
 
 
Game Two
Lyon scored two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead early in game two. 
 
In the top of the second, Tyklen Salmons plated the Owls' first run of the game off Alex Owens' double to left field. 
 
Lyon added two more in the second on a two RBI triple and one in the third to take 5-1 lead. 
 
A sacrifice fly from Marcus Gonzalez to score Owens gave the Owls their second run of the game.
 
Lyon plated three more in the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. 
 
Gonzalez scored the Owls third and final run of the game on Chase Gibson's RBI double to deep center field in the sixth.
 
The Owls outhit Lyon, 10-9. Isaiah Gibbs, Tyklen Salmons and Alex Owens each recorded two hits. 
 
Owen Tripp (1-3) was credited with the loss on the mound. He pitched 2.2 innings and allowed five runs.
